Reblogging things of interest...

I found a couple of things on Facebook that I thought some of you might also find interesting...

There are always going to be people who don’t understand the amount of work you’ve done and one of the most important lessons I’ve learnt (and am still learning) is that if someone doesn’t see or respect the value of my work they’re not the right client for me

This is so true. I think we all could use a bit of thicker skin when it comes to our creative endeavors. I love my embroidered portraits & if I never sell another one, that's OK. I still love making them. I still envision new designs in my head. I'll just keep creating...

From Design Boom: matthew cox: embroidered x rays. Find the entire article HERE.

The above article is from 2011, but it is a fresh & interesting idea, even 3 years later. I definitely appreciate the creativity of embroidering on x-ray film. It's an intriguing compositional idea that I never would have thought of.

I've been thinking, & I believe my sistar is right. I need to create a website to showcase my work in a different way. Etsy has gotten so large, that it's difficult to be seen. If anyone has any suggestions on web hosting, please feel free to post in the comments.

Happy Stitching,

  2. I used to spend a lot of time looking at etsy and purchased a lot of items and still have favorite shops there. However, since etsy changed from strictly handmade items to anything goes I don't spend much time there looking around. If you find another place to sell, let me know. I'd love a new place to lurk around.

I used to sell items in local shows about 20 years ago when it was popular to go to craft shows. There were several high end shows in our area and it was very lucrative to be making handmade. I live in a kind of tourist area. There will always be those that don't see the value in the prices you set but stand tall. Your work is fabulous. I know a lot of beaders that do quite well marketing and selling right from Facebook. If you want to sell on line, you have to spend A LOT of time networking.

    1. I agree with you about Etsy. I've become very disillusioned with them, & haven't bought anything in months. I'm in a shop locally, but we aren't getting the right kind of traffic. I'm not sure what to do. Networking is something I definitely need to work on. Hopefully, the next few "contests" I'm doing will help with exposure.
